2nd Challenge
Saving up energy

What’s the main objetive?

The objective is to reduce energy consumption in our homes as much as possible for one month.

What to do?

Light

  • Use LED bulbs: If you have to turn on the lights, make sure they are LED bulbs, as they consume less energy.
  • Turn off the lights: Every time you leave a room, turn off the lights.
  • Take advantage of natural light: Turn off the lights and open the curtains. Let the sun illuminate your home.

Appliances and devices

  • Unplug your devices: Unplug chargers, microwaves, toasters and any other devices you are not using. Appliances in standby mode also consume energy.
  • Efficient use of the refrigerator: Make sure the refrigerator is tightly closed and do not open it unnecessarily.
  • Wash in cold water: Most detergents work well in cold water.
  • Full load: Make sure to use the washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full.
  • Air drying: Instead of using the dryer, hang your clothes outdoors or on a clothesline.
  • Turn off your computer: When not in use, turn off your computer instead of leaving it in sleep mode.
  • Family time: Turn off the TV and other devices and spend time playing board games or reading.

Heating and air conditioning

  • Natural ventilation: Instead of using air conditioning, open the windows early in the morning and at night to cool the house.
  • Adjust the temperature: If you use air conditioning, raise the temperature one or two degrees and wear lighter clothing.

Cooking

  • Unplug your devices: Unplug chargers, microwaves, toasters and any other devices you are not using. Appliances in standby mode also consume energy.
  • Efficient use of the refrigerator: Make sure the refrigerator is tightly closed and do not open it unnecessarily.
  • Wash in cold water: Most detergents work well in cold water.
  • Full load: Make sure to use the washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full.
  • Air drying: Instead of using the dryer, hang your clothes outdoors or on a clothesline.
Turn off your computer: When not in use, turn off your computer instead of leaving it in sleep mode.
  • Family time: Turn off the TV and other devices and spend time playing board games or reading.

Insulation and maintenance

  • Close the curtains: During the day, close the curtains to keep the heat out in summer and the cold out in winter.
  • Seal windows and doors: Make sure there are no air leaks that could make your heating or cooling system work harder.
