The Cova Tallada is located at the foot of the Montgó Natural Park, in the heart of the San Antonio Marine Reserve. It is a place that fuses natural wonders and historical vestiges. Carved between the 12th and 14th centuries, this cave combines the beauty of the rock formations with the history of the extraction of rough stone for the construction of emblematic buildings in the region.

What to do in the Cova Tallada?

Caving and hiking

The Cova Tallada is ideal for adventure lovers. You can explore the cave on foot, enjoying its imposing formations and crystal-clear waters. The hiking route to reach the cave can be demanding, with rocky and slippery sections, so it is advisable to be in good physical shape and wear suitable footwear.

Kayaking and Snorkelling

Another exciting way to access the cave is by kayak. This route allows you to enjoy the beauty of the coastline and, once in the cave, you can snorkel in its transparent waters, discovering a vibrant marine ecosystem full of fish and other species.

Important practical advice

1. It is essential to book your visit! During the high season, it is necessary to book in advance to control the flow of visitors and preserve the environment.
2. Proper equipment: wear sturdy shoes, bring plenty of water, a hat and sunscreen, and snorkelling gear. It is advisable to bring a torch if you plan to enter the cave.
3. Best time to visit is early morning and late afternoon, when the sunlight is less intense and the landscape is tinged with golden hues.

Sustainability and best practices

To ensure the conservation of this natural treasure, follow these tips:

  • Respect nature: don’t leave rubbish and pick up any waste you find. Use ecological and biodegradable products so as not to pollute the water and the environment.
  • Do not touch the natural formations: stalactites and stalagmites are fragile and their growth is extremely slow. Avoid touching them so as not to damage them.
  • Silence and respect: keep noise to a minimum so as not to disturb the local fauna and enjoy the tranquillity of the place.
  • Responsible use of water: if you bring drinking water, use reusable containers and do not dispose of this waste
  • Take your rubbish with you: whatever you take with you, take it back. Do not leave waste in and around the cave to keep the site clean and preserved for future visitors.
  • Respect flora and fauna: do not pick plants or interfere with local fauna.
  • Regulated access: respect the access limits and the indications of the staff so as not to overload the environment and contribute to its protection.

Shuttle train. The final part of Les Rotes beach (from the Mena restaurant) has been closed to vehicles with a barrier, from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm.

For this reason, during the summer of 2024, from 15 June to 15 September, a free shuttle train service has been set up between the public car park of the old minigolf course (next to the Les Rotes hotel) and the area restricted to traffic. Its timetable: from 9 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm, with a frequency of every 15 minutes.
